Global Nav

A Warm Welcome

Jakarta World Academy (JWA) was founded on the aspiration for a better educational experience for our young people than that provided when today’s adults were going to school. It recognizes that today our children are growing up in a world that is rapidly and fundamentally changing and is full of many challenges and exciting possibilities.

Our vision is to empower our students to embrace the future and to thrive as ingenious global citizens . We place our students at the center of everything we do and provide a caring, supportive environment that promotes inquiry, fosters life long learning and excites a passion for excellence.

Sinarmas World Academy (SWA) is very proud to announce that 9 year old Keily Setiawan in Grade 4 at SWA, became one of the world's youngest published authors with the release of her picture story iBook ‘Chen Chen Goes to Space’ in 32 iTunes stores worldwide on Saturday, April 28.

Apple's new software ‘iBooks Author’, launched in January 2012, along with third party Apps including ‘Book Creator’ that Keily used to produce her iBook, are providing powerful new tools to today's youth and their teachers, to enable them to author sophisticated multimedia books and distribute them to a worldwide audience.

Teacher Jane Ross, one of SWA's team of Apple Distinguished Educators, was one of a select group of teachers in Asia to be invited to advanced training in the new software, in Bangkok recently. Since then, she has introduced it to teachers and students at SWA, which has opened a floodgate of excitement, enthusiasm and writing!

Celebrating Kartini Day

Kartini Day: Old Photograph of R.A Kartini surrounded by floral patterns

We invite all our Students, Parents, Families and Staff to dress in Batik or Traditional Indonesian attire in celebration and honor of national heroine, Raidien Ayu Kartini and equality for women.

R.A. Kartini was a brave and inspiring young woman who lived 19th century Java, a time where women had very few rights, limited access to even the most basic education and very little control over their lives.

An author and pioneer of the emancipation of women in Indonesia, Kartini saw that the struggle for women to obtain their freedom, autonomy and legal equality was part of a wider movement to bring about positive change society as a whole.

Sneak peak inside JWA school

A great crowd of parents and friends joined us for a sneak peek of the new elementary school facilities in the new Melati extension of Thamrin Nine Podium.

Although still a construction site, visitors were very impressed with the campus spread over the second and third floors and featuring classrooms, gym, swimming pool, learning kitchen, library and Chinese Culture Center and piazza.

Buzzing for Books

Student and teacher reading a book

Book week took on an international flair this year as it also incorporated Mother Tongue Language Week

The week started off with everyone looking very smart wearing batik in acknowledgement of Indonesian as the language of our host country and ended in national costume and a tasty international food fair.

The week was filled guest story tellers, book exhibits and of course lots of time to curl up on a cushion or sofa with books and just read!!
