Welcome to JWA Admissions

 

Language Acquisition

Welcome to the Jakarta World Academy (JWA). To assist in the preparation of your Application for Admission to JWA, this publication outlines the Admissions Policies and Procedures.

 

To apply for a Student Place, please complete and submit an Application for Admission Form for each child, and pay the Registration Fee.

 

You are then registered for placement and we will arrange for an assessment of your child’s general academic performance and suitability to the JWA programs.

 

Once you have submitted the Application for Admission Form and supporting documentation together with items shown on the Checklist, a placement will be offered where the student meets the requirements for enrolment, in accordance with our Admissions Policies and Procedures.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES - GENERAL

Jakarta World Academy (JWA) seeks students who will make the most of our educational offerings and to maintain a co-educational school with a diverse student population.

Class Placement - Early Childhood and Elementary School

Placement in Early Childhood (Toddler - Nursery) and Elementary School (Pre-K – Grade 2) is made on the basis of the child’s age as at September 30, in the year of enrolment. The school year begins on August 9 in 2010.

 

Age requirements are as follows:

Expectations

 

Students must meet academic, English language and behavior expectations to be offered a placement at JWA. This will be assessed through a Placement Interview and testing.

 

Academic Expectations

 

Students should be able to demonstrate achievement to at least an age appropriate satisfactory standard against international benchmarks.

 

English Language Expectations

Students should be able to demonstrate achievement in the following levels of English language proficiency:

Toddler to Nursery None required
Pre-K to K None required
Grade 1-2 Gaining English fluency (Moderate)

 

Learning Support

Limited learning support is available to support students with learning needs to meet grade level expectations.

 

Behavior

Students should demonstrate a positive attitude to learning and interaction with others that reflects respect for oneself, for others and for the environment.

 

 

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURES
- EARLY CHILDHOOD PLACEMENTS

Toddler – Nursery Classes

Toddler programs are available for children who are 16 months old, before September 30, of the year of enrolment.

 

Nursery programs are available for children who are 2 years old before September 30, of the year of enrolment.

 

Where students are not yet toilet trained, the family must provide a Nanny for changing nappies together with supplies of nappies and toiletries. A special area in the toilets is provided for changing of nappies.

 

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten 1 (K1) Classes

Students for Pre-Kindergarten must turn 3 years old before September 30, of the year of enrolment into Pre-Kindergarten.

 

Students for Kindergarten must turn 4 years old before September 30, of the year of enrolment into Kindergarten 1

 

In Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten classes only children who are toilet trained and can demonstrate independence will be accepted.

 

Separation from Parents

JWA Early Childhood teachers understand the challenges of “separation” and the differing needs of individuals at this age and will support and advise families to assist an easy transition.

 

Offering Placements

JWA views applications holistically when offering places. We take into account the profile of the grade applied for and place students so that diversity and balance within the school is maintained and within the constraints of English language proficiency and class size limitations.

Early Childhood - Toddler to Kindergarten Students

All Students:


• Completed Application for Admission Form
• Copies of previous and current school reports (as applicable)
• 2 current passport sized photograph of student

 

Indonesian Students / Students from Indonesian Schools:


• Original Birth Certificate (for sighting) and 1 copy for files
• Original Family Registration Card (for sighting) and 1 copy for files

 

International Students:


• Original Passport and KITAS of parent (for sighting) and 1 copy for files

 

Elementary School - Grade 1 and 2 Students

 

All Students:

 

• Completed Application for Admission Form
• Copies of previous and current school reports
• Copies of any standardized test results
• 2 current passport sized photograph of student

 

EXPECTATIONS AND AGREEMENTS


JWA is a school that places great importance on providing a caring and supportive environment and believes that it is important for all staff, students and parents to model respectful and caring behavior and attitudes.

 

This also extends to a healthy, safe environment and lifestyle and to respect and show courtesy for all support and service staff who are also members of the Jakarta World Academy community.

 

Students are expected to respect and maintain their own property, that of others and the school. Students are expected to follow schools behavior expectations and the laws of Indonesia including those relating to theft and illegal substances.

 

Student and Parent Expectations and Agreements


As a member of the JWA Community, students and parents should agree to the following expectations:

 

Attendance and Communication


Students are expected to attend school everyday and participate in required school sponsored field trips and activities.

 

Students should arrive at school between 8.00am-8.20am each day.

 

If a student cannot attend school due to illness, injury or other reason, the parents are required to notify the school section secretary by phone before 8.30am.

 

This should be followed with a written and signed note from the parent, when the student returns to school.

 

Where a student is returning from an illness/absence, the student and/or parents should meet with his/her teacher to check regarding missed work or assignments.

 

During school hours, no students are permitted to exit the school campus without written permission from the school Principal.

 

Permission to leave, will only be given after receiving a visit, call or letter from parents explaining the time and reason for student to leave school.

 

Messages from home to students should be conveyed through the school receptionist. Maids and drivers are not permitted to enter classrooms.

 

School Uniform


School uniforms are required to be worn at all times during the school day, except where advised otherwise by the school for special events/excursions.

 

The uniform should be worn as a whole and not supplemented by non-uniform items. Plain black shoes and white socks are required as part of the uniform.

 

Ready-made uniforms and uniform fabrics, design details and sports uniforms can be purchased from the school.

 

Physical Appearance


• Students should always be clean, neat and appropriately dressed.
• Hair should be neatly maintained
• Jewellery should not be worn.

 

Behavior


All students are expected to behave appropriately within the context of a safe, supportive environment.

 

Where students act outside of their responsibilities and the JWA Expectations, the school will work with students and parents to support appropriate behaviors through applying logical consequences.

 

If students consistently choose not to work within the expectations of the JWA Community, their admission at JWA may be suspended or discontinued.

 

Behavior expectations are outlined in the JWA Behavior Guidelines – Expectations and Consequences.

 

Safety


To support JWA to be a safe environment, access and movement around the campus is controlled and monitored.

 

Visitors must abide by the directions of the school’s security personnel. All parents will be issued with an JWA ID Card and must present it to security personnel when visiting the school.

 

Parents may apply for JWA ID Cards for family members and staff (maids, drivers, nannies).  JWA ID Cards should be worn at all times and presented to security personnel.

 

Nannies, maids and drivers should not stay on the school premises, with the exception of nannies for Toddler and Nursery classes at the discretion of the school Principal.

 

Students should be picked up on time. Where there is an expected delay, parents should contact the school secretary to advise.
