During the past couple of weeks, Jakarta World Academy students were very busy preparing for their Exhibition and Celebration of Learning. The students eagerly rehearsed, as they were all excited to present and perform in front of their families. Teachers and students worked hard in preparation for the exhibition. Students collaborated with their teachers and carefully crafted their artworks and tried numerous experiments to show to their parents during the exhibition day.
Apart from various students’ performances, all students participated in the “12 Days of Thanksgiving Project”. To celebrate the holiday spirit of sharing and giving, JWA students brought in 12 different items from 27th November to 12th December 2017. The children slowly filled an eco bag with the goods that they brought in each day. The students learnt the value of sharing and caring as their teachers explained to them that the goods they brought to school each day will be donated to the children in the orphanage Yayasan Sayap Ibu.
On 14th December 2017, the students painted the town red and green as they came wearing their colour coded shirts, reindeer antlers and elf’s hat. They all came in excited and ready to show their parents the fruits of their labour. All the students eagerly performed and showcased their talents to their proud parents. The Dance and Drama Club started the programme with their own dance rendition of Jingle Bells. It was then followed by the Nursery class’ “Reindeer Pokey” dance. The Pre-K students made everyone danced to the beat of “Can’t stop the Feeling.” The K1 students confidently played Jingle Bells on their xylophones and danced gracefully to the tune of “Sleigh Ride”. The K2 students ended the first half of the show with their poem “Today I am a Drummer” and a dance called “Better When I am Dancing”.
The students not only showcased their dancing prowess, they also staged their acting skills in their own version of “The Enormous Turnip.” All JWA students debut in performing “The Enormous Turnip,” as everyone took part in the stage play performance. The students concluded the show with a Chinese song “Bá Luo Bao” followed by their finale performance “All I Want for Christmas is You”.
After the students’ performances, JWA held its first Semestral Class Exhibition and Celebration of Learning for this academic year. The students proudly demonstrated their learning experience and taught their parents what they have learnt in school during the first semester. All students were very proud of the achievements in class.
In Jakarta World Academy, we teach our students to be academically driven as well as to value balanced learning, character development, love for life-long learning and having a growth mindset.
