Spring Festival is also known as Chinese New Year. It is considered as one of the most important and traditional festivals amongst Chinese. In China, Chinese will normally play firecrackers, decorate the house with Chinese traditional couplets, and watch dragon or lion dance. All these activities mean to bring good luck and happiness for the upcoming year. Every year, Chinese teachers in Jakarta World Academy (JWA) will fill the school campus with red couplets, lanterns and traditional Chinese New Year decorations.
Last Friday, 23 February, Jakarta World Academy community celebrated the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year. This occasion is considered to be the most important auspicious celebration amongst the Chinese all over the globe.
JWA students from Nursery to Kindergarten 2 delighted all the parents and guess with their wonderful performances that showcased the richness of the Chinese culture and tradition. The Nursery class performed the 敲咚咚 “qiāo dōng dōng” and 恭喜恭喜新年好 “gōng xǐ gōng xǐ xīn nián hǎo” that brought everyone to smile with their adorable dance moves. The Pre-Kindergarten captivated the audience with their adaptation of the Chinese Kung Fu demonstration to the tune of 一双小小手 “yī “shuāng xiǎo xiǎo shǒu” 功夫宝贝 and “gōng fu bǎo bèi”. The combined Kindergarten 1 and 2 classes Glockenspiels performance charmed the audience with their own rendition of the songs “Karen Lai,” “Twinkle, Twinkle” and the classic Chinese poem 弟子规 “dì zǐ guī”. The ceremony ended when all the students gathered and performed “Nao Xin Chun”.
